Established
in March 1964, Green Valley is an unincorporated adult retirement
community located 25 miles south of Tucson along I-19. This great retirement
town is situated in the fertile Santa Cruz River Valley at an elevation
of 2,900 feet.
Endless possibilities
for a relaxed Southwestern Lifestyle await you in Green Valley. The amenit
only begin with breath-taking mountain views in every direction. Green
Valley is home to three local shopping centers where you will recognize
such favorites as Safeway Foods and Walmart, plus a host of professional
offices, shops and restaurants. You'll enjoy the interesting shopping
in nearby Tubac Village and - for an Old World flavor - Nogales, Sonora
Mexico is just minutes away.
Weather
Low humidity is the rule most of the year. Nighttime winter temperatures
in the 30's are not uncommon, but days are generally in the 60's or 70's.
Summer nights are usually breezy with 70's being the norm...days going
into the high 90's and 100+ are not uncommon. Lots of BLUE SKY and CLEAN
AIR.
Local Economy
Because of its retirement orientation, Green Valley is not dependent on
any one source of income. Major employment opportunities include the nearby
copper mines, Caterpillar Tractor, the Pecan industry, construction and
local service facilities. Its economy is further fueled by transfer funds,
Social Security, dividends, savings withdrawls and retirement benefits.
Recreational Facilities
Golf:
There are seven local courses ranging from traditional wide layouts to
tournament quality designs. These consist of four 18-hole course layouts
open to the public and three 18-hole private courses.
Swimming: More than twenty five pool
facilities are located throughout the community, many in concert with
health and fitness facilities.
Tennis: The tennis courts in Green
Valley range from small neighborhood cement courts to specially designed
facilities at centers run by GreenValley Recreation, Inc.
Bowling: One modern center with twenty
four lanes and automatic scoring machines.
Other Sports: Besides the traditional
sports, there are also facilities for shuffleboard, table tennis, and
other less strenuous recreational activities. Green Valley Recreation,
Inc. (GVR), effectively functions as a Parks and Recreation Department,
although it is a private non-profit membership organization. GVR provides
community-wide sports, recreation and leisure activities through six major
social center complexes and six neighborhood centers. Membership in GVR
is available based on the deed restrictions of each residential property.
Dale will provide details on the deed restrictions of local properties.
